Fascinated by kevlar boat sails texture and its ability to play with light, transparency and depth, I was inspired to create an entire series from it.
The recycled boat sails come from Marseille's harbor. Their textures reveal their multiples odysseys on the sea.

Series of collages playing with boat sails texture and transparency.
I also integrated the power of words, in the first collage, like in many others pieces from the series. I calligraphed extracts of poems and quotes resonating in me, words linked with the emotion transmitted within the artwork:
"Nous sommes toujours dans le commencement des choses, dans l'instant fragile qui contient la puissance de vie. Nous sommes toujours au matin du monde. Demain est beau car il est totale liberté. Tout existe en tant que possibilité. Chaque instant amène un monde neuf, une vie nouvelle, chaque instant devient une nouvelle naissance. Savoir saisir la grandeur de ces petites choses qui font la magie de l'instant. Plonger dans la fascination du réel. Et si l'essentiel était juste d'être passionné, de suivre sa joie profonde pour rayonner et se déployer à l'infini?"

The last collage also integrate the vibration of words with this beautiful poem by Andrée Chedid written behind the transparent spinnaker blue sail:

Dans l'être et l'infini."

I used the geometry of this kevlar sail as a starting base. Behind the circular window, a poem is written, as the sun waiting to rise up :
"There is a morning in you awaiting to be born / Il y a un matin en vous qui n'attend que d'éclater en lumière. Rumi"
Inspired by the graphics of the letters and numbers traditionally taking part of a sail, I integrated 3D letters: M.A.R of Marseille, M.A.R as the Spanish word for the sea, ans M.A.R to compose the word A.M.O.R including the sail circular window.

A boat sail is in itself a symbol of freedom. I was inspired to traduce this feeling as a main emotion. I calligraphed a text that made me vibrate deeply on this sensation. The powerful words appear on the kevlar sail graphically as a sun:
"Vous n'êtes plus emprisonné. Vous êtes hors de la cage. Vous pouvez ouvrir vos ailes. Le ciel tout entier vous est offert. Le soleil, la lune et toutes les étoiles vous appartiennent. Vous pouvez disparaître dans le bleu de l'au-delà. Cessez de vous agripper aux barreaux de la cage. Sortez, le ciel infini vous attend. Déployez vos ailes et volez vers le soleil comme un aigle. Dans votre ciel intérieur, dans l'univers de votre conscience, la liberté est la valeur suprême. Il existe une myriade de fleurs et ce n'est que dans un climat de liberté qu'elles fleurissent. Abandonnez vous à la douceur et à la magie du moment qui se présente. Sentez le frémissement des ailes en vous. Ouvrez vos ailes, devenez le ciel. Demain est beau car il est totale liberté. Tout existe en tant que possibilité. Avancez librement, à l'aise dans un chaos. Quand vous portez en vous une révolution, chaque instant amène un monde neuf, une vie nouvelle. Chaque instant devient une nouvelle naissance. Arrêtez d'agir si petit, vous êtes l'univers en mouvement extatique. Répandez votre joie. Osez briller."

The word alchemy has a deep resonance for me and is part of my philosophy. For me, alchemy is the art of sublimating and transforming all suffering, weight and resistance into gold. The supreme alchemy comes to balance the polarities, to create union in duality, first within us. This work explores the union and balance of masculine and feminine polarities.
In my creative process, I like to design from an element with a story, with a soul, and which resonates with me. I like to give life to a material, to an element, from this resonance. An alchemy of transformation.
These recycled boat sails carry within themselves all their downwind odysseys.
I started to explore the fascinating universe of this material in 2016, in Sao Paulo where I was living, with pieces I brought back from Brittany:
